ODM Financial Munster Senior Cup Semi Finals

The semi finals of the ODM Financial Munster Senior Cup will be contested this Saturday 20th November with a 2.00 kick off. Three of the participating sides have appeared in finals in the last five seasons.

Garryowen who have won the Cup on thirty six occasions play Dolphin at Tom Clifford Park.

The Dooradoyle side last won this famous trophy back in 2007 when they defeated Cork Constitution 18-13 in the decider. Dolphin’s last success was in 1956 when they won their sixth title and their last appearance in a final was in 2006 when Shannon defeated them 20-16 at Musgrave Park.

Garryowen have come out on top in their recent encounters but the Cork side will be full of confidence especially after their league triumph last week at Temple Hill over Cork Constitution. The Dooradoyle side will start as favourites but may not have it as easy as their last encounter when they came out on top on a 45-27 scoreline.

The other semi final is between Highfield and Bruff at the Towns Park in Midleton. Highfield have won the Cup on two occasions 1966 and 1968 and last appeared in the decider at Musgrave Park in 2008 when Shannon defeated them 12-6.

Bruff who were only promoted to senior ranks in the 2004/05 season will be playing in their first semi final and having beaten the Cup experts Shannon and Cork Constitution in the previous two rounds they will relish the opportunity of booking a final spot.

Of the four sides Bruff are currently the form side with victories over U.C.C., U.L. Bohemian and Galwegians in the last three weeks they will be confident of booking their place in the final on the 19thDecember.
