ODM Munster Senior Cup Roundup

Cashel defeated last year’s beaten finalists Bruff in the only shock in the first round of the ODM Munster Senior Cup.

Newly promoted to Division 2A, Cashel knocked out Division 1B side Bruff 13-7 at Kilballyowen Park. Bruff who won this trophy two years ago and were beaten finalists last year led 7-6 at half time with a penalty try which Richard McAuliffe converted. Pat O’Connor kicked two penalties for the Tipperary side. A 55th minute try by Edmund Leamy decided this contest and O'Connor converted to seal the win.

Holders Garryowen easily over came the challenge of Thomond 42-7 at Dooradoyle. The home side led 15-0 at the interval and took control in the second half, Cian O’Shea scored two tries and they had further tries by Corey Hircock, Conan Doyle and Eamon Connolly and also were awarded a penalty try. Jeff Ryan converted three of the tries and also added two penalties. Eugene Payne had Thomond's try which John Lillis converted.

Garryowen will travel to Cork Constitution in the next round next week after the Temple Hill side made amends for their recent Charity Cup defeat with a 43-6 victory over Dolphin. The home side were 23-6 ahead at half time. Serge Renaud contributed two tries and a drop goal to Con’s tally and there other tries came from Pat Parfrey, James Ryan, Joe McSweeney and Paul Perez. Gerry Hurley kicked two conversions and two penalties. Garret O’Suilleabhain replied with two penalties for Dolphin.

Young Munster bounced back from their Limerick Charity Cup final defeat a week previously when they trounced UCC 37-3 at Clifford Park.
UCC went in front with an early penalty by Sean Og Murphy but a drop goal by player-coach Mike Prendergast and a try by Derry O'Connor had the home side 8-3 in front at the interval.
Two tries by Craig O'Hanlon and others by Neville Melbourne, Mark Doyle and Ger Slattery eased Young Munster into round two. O’Connor converted two of the tries.

U.L. Bohemian defeated Nenagh Ormond 12-18 at New Ormond Park thanks to tries by Cathal Sheridan and Darren Moroney and a conversion and two penalties from Tim Rafferty. Nenagh replied with four penalties.

Old Crescent had to battle hard for their 11-8 away win over Highfield. The Rosbrien side led 11-0 at half time with a try from Will Hanly and two penalties by Shane Mullally. Highfield battled back after the break with a try by Paul Stack and a penalty by Darragh Buckley-Barry.

Sunday’s Well defeated Clonakilty 32-14 at Musgrave Park. Shane O’Riordan was the ‘Well’s hero with two tries, two penalties and three conversions. Shane O’Sullivan and Shane Walsh also scored tries for the winners. Clonakilty replied with tries by Eanna Kelleher and Alan Long and James Deasy converted both.

The Midleton v Shannon tie was postponed following the death of former Shannon President and Trustee Darragh Little.
