PBC Claim Local Derby In SEAT Schools Junior Cup

PBC defeated their Cork rivals CBC 8-5 today at Musgrave Park in the opening round of the SEAT Munster Schools Junior Cup.

PBC have qualified for a home quarter final in the SEAT Munster Schools Junior Cup where they will meet St Munchin’s at a Cork venue on February 27th after they came from behind to defeat old rivals CBC at Musgrave Park.

Pres' played with the elements in the opening half, but Christians had the Mardyke College pinned back approaching the break, but a combination of bad handling short of the line and solid defensive work by the Sydney Hill College prevented Pres’ from putting points on the board.

The deadlock was broken four minutes after the interval when the ball was spread out to David Leonard for a try in the corner following a series of drives for the line by the Christians pack. James Taylor’s conversion attempt from a difficult angle fell short of the posts.

Pres’ opened their account three minutes later when James Broderick slotted over a penalty from outside the Sydney Hill College’s ten-metre line.

Christians had the Mardyke College back on the defensive, but Conor O’Flynn pulled off a try saving tackle for Pres’ midway through the second half.

Pres’ took the lead five minutes from time when Peter Sylvester barged over for a try ollowing a scrum deep in the Christians 22.

Christians missed a chance to tie the scores and win the game on the first try rule when Eoin Monahan’s penalty attempt from the Mardyke College’s 22 sailed narrowly wide of the posts with time almost up.
