Pilot Online Coaching Courses Proving Successful
3rd November 2020 By The Editor
The Munster Rugby Development Department hosted four online coaching events during the month of October as part of this season’s coaching course programme.
These events are designed to accommodate coaches who wish to achieve their IRFU coaching awards for coaching children and coaching youth levels, through a blended learning approach.
They are part of a three-stage process designed around the current restrictions with online Zoom calls and interactive breakout rooms to support coach understanding of the course curriculum.
It is hoped these coaches can complete their awards through face-to-face deliveries in due course.
This season the IRFU have integrated a new online registration and coaching course enrolment system where all attending coaches are automatically registered on the GAINLINE learning management system. Here they can engage their personal profile, download course certificates, access online coaching resources and complete other online courses or requirements.
Coach and Player Development Manager Keith Murphy said: “We have had to change our approach this season when delivering our formal IRFU coaching courses.
“We were delighted with the take-up as 107 coaches attended over the past three weeks. We have refreshed and adapted a number of modules for virtual delivery and we look forward to supporting coaches on their learning journey through these unprecedented times.
“Based on the positive response from these courses we will now review our program and potentially look at other courses in the near future.”
