Pinergy Munster Schools Boys Senior Cup Roundup

There were two games kicking off this afternoon as Ardscoil Rís met St. Munchins in Thomond Park while Rockwell College faced Bandon Grammar School in Fethard Town Park in the Pinergy Munster Schools Boys Senior Cup quarter final eliminator.

Ardscoil Rís 27 – 28 St. Munchins

Basked in sunshine on the hallowed turf in Thomond Park it was Munchins who struck first in the fourth minute as Adam O’Shaughnessy dotted down off the back of a maul. Out half Oisin Madden added the extras.

Ardscoil fired their first shot in the 15th minute when Ryan McCormack crashed over. Ollie Desmond added the extras to bring the game level.

They continued this trajectory with two more tries from Daniel O’Connell and Daniel Collins putting them 12 points clear coming up to the break.

It was Kalum Kirwan that put Munchins back in the game before the half time whistle as he crossed the whitewash bringing the score to 19-14 in favour of Ardscoil.

But as the clock ticked closer to half time Ardscoil nabbed themselves a last second penalty that put Cathal O’Doherty in in the corner after some fantastic phases of attack. This widened the gap once more as they ran into sheds with a score line of 27-14.

Munchins were first to strike in the second half with a try from tight head prop David Geoghegan with Oisin Madden nailing a touchline conversion to add the extra two.

It wasn’t until the 68th minute that Munchins found themselves over once again through Adam O’Shaughnessy sealing themselves the tightest of victories.

It is the end of the road for Ardscoil this season as they fall just short.

Munchins will now meet Castletroy College in the quarter finals.
