Play Rugby At Dunmanway National Schools

Five national schools in the Dunmanway area are taking part in a Play Rugby programme coordinated by the Munster Community Rugby Department.

Pupils from St. Marys, Derrinacahara the Model School Dunmanway, Ballinacarriga and Togher national schools have been enjoying the programme.

Due to the success of the initiative Dunmanway RFC plan to run a mini section at the club solely for girls and all participants will be wellcome.

As part of the programme the students have played their fellow class mates in a number of games learning new skills and rugby techniques along the way.

At the end of the session each school will receive a 'Play Rugby Pack' consisting of cones, balls and bibs.

The 'Play Rugby' programme encourages the effective development of non-contact mini rugby through schools by providing them with the necessary equipment and coach education.

Since the introduction of the 'Play Rugby' initiative boys and girls throughout the country have learned rugby techniques that include running and evasion, passing and tagging and it is hoped they will continue to play rugby at their local rugby clubs.

School teachers are encouraged to continue with this initiative and assist with the development of rugby at primary school level.

On completion of the course, the school will be presented with a 'Play Rugby' equipment pack which contains six rugby balls, cones, bibs, games and much more.

If your school would like to enter the 'Play Rugby' programme, please email info@munsterrugby.ie
