Play Rugby At Dunmanway RFC

Over 100 primary school pupils attended a rugby blitz at Dunmanway RFC completing their five week ‘Play Rugby’ programme.

Boys and girls attending St. Mary’s Girls, The Model School, Ballinacarriga, Togher and Derrinacahara took part in the programme designed to introduce rugby to children in a fun environment.

The 'Play Rugby' programme encourages the effective development of non-contact mini rugby through schools by providing them with the necessary equipment and coach education.

Since the introduction of the 'Play Rugby' initiative boys and girls throughout the country have learned rugby techniques that include running and evasion, passing and tagging and it is hoped they will continue to play rugby at their local rugby clubs.

School teachers are encouraged to continue with this initiative and assist with the development of rugby at primary school level.

On completion of the course, the school were be presented with a 'Play Rugby' equipment pack which contains six rugby balls, cones, bibs, games and much more.

Following on from the programme, a girls only section has been introduced at Dunmanway RFC as player recruitment continues throughout the province.

If your school would like to enter the 'Play Rugby' programme, please email info@munsterrugby.ie
