Cashel stunned Clanwilliam in the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup as Richmond booked their place in the final of the Junior Clubs Challenge Cup.
There was a dramatic finish to the last Second Round tie of the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup tie at Cashel as a last minute try by Noel Roche converted by Marcello Frati sent the game into extra time against Clanwilliam with the scores tied 20-20. Niall Leahy put Clanwilliam ahead with a penalty but a try by Joey Davis in the last play of the game gave Cashel victory 25-23. Josh Moynihan scored cashel’s first try which Frati converted and also added two penalties Leahy contributes two tries, two penalties and a conversion to Clanwilliam’s tally with Gavin Downey also scoring a try for Clanwilliam.
Cashel will host Garryowen in Round 3 of the Junior Cup and Clanwilliam will be away to Tralee in the opening round of the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Plate. Both these games are scheduled for 23rd February.
Kilfeacle have moved level on points with leaders Thomond in Division 1 of the Munster Junior League after they snatched a dramatic bonus point win with a last minute try to beat Sunday’s Well 24-22 at Virgin Media Park.
Ciaran Maguire opened the scoring with a penalty for Sunday’s Well, but Kilfeacle hit back with tries from Bob Purcell and Brendan Barron, with Luke Heuston converting both. Harry McHenry brought the ‘Well back into the contest with a try and Maguire converted. On the stroke of half time Alex Lane touched down and Maguire converted to give the home side a 17-14 interval lead. In an explosive finish, Purcell scored his second try to put Kilfeacle ahead. The ‘Well went back in front with a try from Mario Cosimi and in the final play Jacques Van Wyngaardt scored a bonus point winning try.
Richmond booked their place in the final of the Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Cup with a 19-17 away win over Bandon and will now face Thomond in the decider on 23rd March at Grove Island with a 2pm kick-off. Hugh O’Mahony opened the scoring with a penalty for Bandon but a try from Shane Halpin and two Brian Mullins penalties had Richmond leading 11-3 at the interval. Mullins extended his side’s advantage with a third penalty before Ben Donegan scored a try for Bandon and O’Mahony converted to leave Richmond four points ahead. Ban Gallagher extended the visitors advantage with a try but a late Scott Kingston try converted by O’Mahony was not enough to prevent an all Limerick final.
In Division 2 of the Junior League Castleisland eased their relegation worries with an 18-17 away win over local rivals Tralee. Calvin Swords and Matthew Horgan scored tries for Castleisland and Joe Sheehy kicked two penalties and a conversion.
Killorglin moved up to fourth place in Division Three after their 13-8 away win over Douglas. Niall Griffin and Eoghan Walsh scored tries for Killorglin and Luke O’Shea kicked a penalty. Rory Lynch replied with a try for Douglas and Eoin Philpott added a penalty.
