Record Numbers Attend ‘Give It A Try’ Sessions
29th June 2018 By The Editor
A record number of girls have turned up at venues all across Ireland to participate in the ‘Give It A Try’ Girls Rugby Summer Programme.
Nearly one thousand girls have participated in the ‘Give It A Try’ sessions with clubs reporting record turnouts.
A total of 10 Munster clubs welcomed girls for sessions, including Shannon, Ennis, Listowel, Carrick On Suir, Mitchelstown, Skibbereen, Fethard, Bruff, Kinsale and Old Christians.
Carrick on Suir RFC even played host to a news crew from RTE to celebrate their success on International Girls Rugby Day.
The girls received an introduction to the skills of rugby each week as well as playing plenty of fun game. This weekend a number of clubs are coming together to allow the girls to meet players from other clubs and play some friendly games.
More festivals have been organised across the Provinces for the end of July, with a National Give It A Try Festival taking place in August.
Ireland’s Women’s Sevens and Fifteens players have been visiting the clubs to meet the girls and enjoy the fun and join in with the water fights as they cool down after training!
The camps will run Tuesday-Friday in July and August, and cost €50 per place.
