Dolphin rugby out-half Barry Keeshan has been honoured by Cork’s Lord Mayor, Cllr Des Cahill for being the all time record points scorer in the history of the All Ireland League.
Barry Keeshan began his rugby career with the Cork Constitution mini section before going to Presentation College where he won a Munster Schools Junior Cup title.
The playmaker then joined UCC where he guided them to an All Ireland U20 title, before going on to make his AIL debut with the college side, scoring 164 points.
A season with Cork Con followed, however, it is with fellow Cork side Dolphin RFC that Keeshan recorded an impressive points tally, scoring 1471 points to date.
The former Ireland Clubs player continues to play with the Irish Independent Park based club while also assuming the role of assistant coach.
Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr Des Cahill said “Barry Keeshan’s record of scoring 1608 points in the All Ireland League (AIL) is phenomenal and we in Cork City are delighted to honour Barry. Great players have graced the AIL during the 14 years Barry played in the league yet Barry’s contribution will surpass many achievements.”
