The Munster Association of Referees recently held a pre-season coaching course in the Charleville Park Hotel with over 100 members from across the province in attendance.
Breakout sessions were held as part of the course with members discussing match official development areas.
MAR President, Nessan Frawley, acknowledged the representation of Munster referees throughout the summer months, during the International Test match window and at the Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco.
Frawley also commended John Lacey and Andrew Brace who have been appointed to matches in this season’s Rugby Championship with Brace involved in Rounds 1&2 and Lacey in Rounds 3&4.
Munster Rugby Spirit Officer, Emily O’Leary, delivered a presentation on the IRFU’s ‘Spirit of Rugby’ initiative, which is a series of practical educational programmes that embody and promote the core values of the game – Respect, Inclusivity, Integrity, Fun and Excellence.
The course concluded with a presentation from Munster and IRFU Referee Development Manager, Peter Fitzgibbon, on the main focus areas for match officials ahead of the new season.
A New Members Course was also held in the Charleville Park Hotel and delivered by Fitzgibbon over the weekend.
There will be a second New Members Course taking place in the new year, Sunday 6 January, at the same venue.
