The Munster Rugby Coach Development Department coordinated this summer’s Regional Development Programme for U16 and U17 players from clubs and schools.
The programme ran from July until the end of August in both Limerick and Cork, incorporating players who were identified during the pre-season indentification programme across the province.
The programme focused on the key skills of the game and highlighted the four cornerstones of catch and pass, decision-making, continuity, and tackle technique / defence.
Players focused on their individual development through education modules, a fundamental movement programme and a rugby technical programme.
The U16 and U17 squads played a competitive match against their Connacht and South East Leinster counterparts, which provided players with the opportunity to test their development after taking part in the programme.
The U18 Girls’ programme also took place over the summer months as part of the Bank of Ireland Munster Rugby Talent Camp, with players developing their S&C, technical, tactical and educational skills.
The newly formed Talent Identified Programme (TIP) was hailed a success following the promotion of nine players into the Talent Camp programme, who also trained with the Munster Women’s squad.
Development programmes for both the U16, U17 and U18 Girls’ squads will continue throughout the season with players invited to training camps from October to April.
The programme continues to complement the players’ continuous development within their clubs and schools.
