A second half comeback wrote Hamilton High School Bandon into the history books as they booked themselves a place in the Pinergy Munster Schools Boys Senior Cup knockout stages for the very first time.

Hamilton High got proceedings underway as they kicked off into a strong cross wind.

But Colaiste Choilm kicked back down field forcing Hamilton High to touch it down over their own tryline.

The goal line drop out that followed was subsequently blocked down resulting in five metre scrum for the Ballincollig side.

After a dominate push the ball darted out and into the hands of outside centre Charlie Murphy who crashed over in the third minute.

Full back Adam Dodd converted.

Colaiste Choilm added six more points to their tally from the boot of Adam Dodd after they were awarded two penalties early on in the half.

But Hamilton High’s tenacity never waivered as they found themselves camped inside Colaiste Choilm’s 22.

The Bandon side were finally rewarded when outside centre Charlie Callanan crashed over in the 23rd minute. Daniel Coughlan followed with the conversion.

It was Colaiste Choilm who tied up the first half with a try from tighthead prop Sam Moore in the 30th minute. Adam Dodd easily converted leaving the Ballincollig natives with a strong lead of 20-7 going into the sheds at halftime.

But it was Hamilton High who stepped up to the mark in the second half.

A brilliant phase of attack nearly put the side over in the 50th minute but the winger was held up over the line.

But this did not deter the West Cork side as Jyles Brennn crossed the whitewash in the 55th minute.

Daniel Coughlan followed with the conversion.

Hamilton High were over again in the 68th minute with an unconverted try from Louis O’Sullivan.

This left the sides separated by one singular point with the clock ticking towards the red.

But it was Hamilton High that took the spoils in the end as they were awarded a last minute penalty to bring the scoreline in their favour at 20-22.

The Bandon side will now continue into the Pinergy Munster Schools Boys Senior Cup taking on St Munchins in Round One of the knockout stages.
