Kilfeacle & District 9 – 31 UCC
University College Cork regained the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup after a 45 year gap with a deserved victory over Kilfeacle at an excellent Grove Island pitch in Limerick.
This was a second successive final defeat for the Tipperary side having lost to Garryowen in the decider last season.
Luke Heuston gave Kilfeacle an early lead with a penalty. David Cogan levelled with a College penalty but Heuston restored Kilfeacle’s advantage with his second penalty.
From a rolling maul Joe O’Leary scored a try in the corner and Cogan converted to put the Students in front, a lead they were to hold for the remainder of the game.
Heuston kicked his third penalty to leave College 10-9 in front at the interval.
David Cogan put his mark on the game early in the second half with a penalty and a try as the Students raced into a 21-9 lead.
Daniel Squires kicked a penalty for College and then converted a try from David McPolin to give UCC their 11th Junior title to go joint second with Shannon in the roll of honour.
