Results And Junior League Round-Up
10th October 2016 By Munster Rugby
With just three series of games played in the Munster Junior League, Clonmel are the only club to be undefeated in Division 1 as they continue their bid for a fourth successive title.
Clonmel travelled to Richmond and defeated one of their main challengers 30-9. This result puts a big dent in Richmond’s hopes of regaining the title. Conor Cooney gave Clonmel an early lead with two penalties before Tadgh Bennett opened Richmond’s account with a penalty. A try from Luke Hogan converted by Cooney had the visitors 13-3 ahead at half-time. Penalties from Bennett and Brian Mullins and another from Cooney left a score between the sides early in the second half. Further tries from Dylan Cadogan and Tony Cantwell, both converted by Cooney, secured the points for the Tipperary side.
St. Senan’s lost their unbeaten record at Galbally when a late penalty from Liam Casey gave the home side a 23-20 victory. Senan’s, who trailed 20-10 midway through the second half, rallied to level, but their hopes were dashed with Casey’s late effort. Michael Donovan and Casey were Galbally’s try scorers. Casey added two conversions and two penalties and Jack O’Mullane also kicked a penalty. Gearoid Condon and Shane Thompstone replied with tries for Senan’s and Declan Rowe kicked two conversions and two penalties.
A bonus point 23-7 win for Cobh Pirates over Old Christians has seen them move into second place two points behind leaders Clonmel. A try from veteran Martin Clifford and an Alan Langford penalty gave Cobh an 8-7 half-time lead. John Purcell replied with a try for the visitors and Ryan O’Connell converted. A second try from Clifford and two by Langford earned the home side maximum points
Bandon’s hopes of a first title received a major setback at Kilfeacle when the home side defeated them 21-15. A try from Charles Walsh and three penalties by Shane Looby had the Tipperary side 14-5 ahead at half-time. Jack Murphy scored Bandon’s try. Looby added a converted try in the second half but a late rally by Bandon which yielded a try from Olan Crowley and a conversion and penalty by Sean Óg Murphy was not enough to stop Bandon suffering their second defeat of the campaign.
Clanwilliam closed the gap on the leaders with a bonus point 34-23 away win at Clonakilty. Graham Roche, Vivian Grisewood and Diarmuid Burke scored tries for Clanwilliam who were also awarded a penalty try. Niall Leahy converted all four tries and kicked two penalties. Shane Scannell, Scott Deasy and Eoin Deasy had tries for Clonakilty and Eoin Deasy kicked two penalties and a conversion.

Herlihy kicked a conversion and a penalty. Kieran Shannon and Rory Hone replied with tries for the home side and Denis McCarthy kicked a conversion.
The other game in this division between Muskerry and Abbeyfeale finished all square at 21-21. Muskerry led 11-9 at half-time with a try from Joe Treacy and two Eoin Keohane penalties to three penalties from Tom Hassett. Daniel Horgan scored a second try for Muskerry and Keohane converted and also added a penalty. Tries from John Murphy and Brian Collins and a Hassett conversion tied the game.
In Division Two, Waterpark have drawn level on points with Youghal at the top of the table after their 32-3 away win over St. Mary’s. James Kiersey opened the scoring with a penalty for Waterpark but Sean Lyons brought Mary’s level with a penalty. Waterpark regained the lead with a penalty from John O’Brien and tries from Ivan Kiersey and David O’Donoghue, the latter converted by O’Brien, gave Waterpark an 18-3 half-time lead. Second half ties from Conor Molloy and Rory Hannon, both of which O’Brien converted, secured the win for Waterpark, a result that also doubled up as a Junior Clubs Challenge Shield tie.
Leaders Youghal continued their good start with a 24-11 home win over Charleville. Ross Donovan and Stephen Kelly scored tries for Youghal and Keith McCarthy kicked a conversion and four penalties. Dan O’Dwyer replied with a try for Charleville and Michael O’Flynn added two penalties.
