Rob Penney Hosts Coaching Conference

Munster Head Coach Rob Penney, Assistant Coach Simon Mannix and Skills Coach Ian Costello presented a Rugby Coaching Conference on Monday and Tuesday evening last in Limerick and Cork for domestic rugby coaches throughout the province.
Over 160 coaches were in attendance over the two evenings which began with Penney discussing the benefits of creating a positive culture in this dynamic team sport and identified the responsibilities of coaches with developing a positive learning and enjoyable experience for players.
Costello presented on a skill development module where he identified the benefit of using the ‘whole-part-whole’ philosophy in coaching skills and focused on the importance of skill development.
The ‘Game Sense Approach’ to coaching was addressed by Mannix who identified how it develops players understanding of rugby by experiencing specific scenarios through the game.
Penney completed both nights with a decision making presentation where the attending coaches participated in interactive discussions through the benefits of video analysis.
The Cork coaches were also presented with a short video clip on the new Munster Rugby Interactive Coach resource website which is now live at www.munsterrugbycoachingindex.com
