Rockwell Beat Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí In Pinergy Munster Schools Boys Senior Cup

Rockwell College

Rockwell College have progressed to the quarter-final of the Pinergy Munster Schools Boys Senior Cup thanks to a 38-0 win over Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí at Musgrave Park this afternoon.

The West Cork school battled bravely throughout but they weren’t able to match the power and experience that the Tipperary school showed during the 70 minutes of action.

Rockwell opened the scoring after six minutes when their captain Jack Ryan crossed for an opening unconverted try.

Bantry’s Dylan Hicks received a yellow card soon after and from the resulting penalty which was 5m out from the Bantry line, Ben Everard crossed for his side’s second try. Kian O’Reilly’s conversion gave the Tipperary school a 12-0 lead after 21 minutes played of the first half.

On the stroke of half-time Rockwell’s Ronan O’Connor received a yellow card but Hicks’ penalty attempt from the tee went narrowly wide.

Bantry pushed for their first score at the start of the second half but it eluded them and Rockwell got a crucial try on the 45-minute mark when O’Reilly crossed in the corner. The out-half converted his own try from the touchline to give the Tipperary school a 19-0 lead.

Rockwell went further ahead when Zac O’Loughlin crossed for his side’s fourth try. O’Reilly landed the conversion to put his side 26-0 in front.

Ryan scored his second try of the match to extend Rockwell’s lead to 31-0 with just over 10 minutes remaining. Conor Bowen crossed for another Rockwell try soon after which O’Reilly converted which gave the Tipperary school a 38-0 lead.

Bantry kept battling and had some good territory and possession in the final stages but they were unable to get the score that their play deserved.

Rockwell will now meet PBC in the quarter-finals in two weeks’ time.
