Rockwell College Claim Semi Final Spot

Rockwell College defeated title holders Castletroy College 10-7 today at Clanwilliam Park in the quarter final replay of the SEAT Munster Schools Junior Cup.

Rockwell College ended Castletroy College’s hopes of retaining their SEAT Munster Schools Junior Cup title at windswept Clanwilliam Park with a deserved victory.

Rockwell played with the elements in the opening half and should have been more then 10-0 ahead at half time if they had taken their scoring chances.

Out half Paudie Feehan broke the deadlock with a try after thirteen minutes which he also converted and he extended his side’s lead with a penalty four minutes before the break.

Rockwell were on the back foot for the entire second half seldom crossing the halfway line but great defending kept the champions at bay until three minutes before the end when Muiris Rowsome scored a try for Castletroy and Rory Hannon converted.

For the remaining few minutes Castletroy did everything to score a second try as Rockwell held the advantage by scoring the first try, but a gallant defence was not to be breeched again as the Tipperary side booked their place in the last four.

Rockwell College will face Cork side PBC on Wednesday 12th, March (kick-off 3pm) at Clanwilliam Park in the semi final while fellow qualifers Glenstal Abbey School take on Crescent College Comprehensive on Thursday, 13th March (venue TBC).
