Round-Up | Age-Grade Interpros v Leinster
19th August 2024 By The Editor
It was a busy weekend of Interpro action as Munster’s age-grade sides took on their Leinster counterparts.
Unfortunately, it was a disappointing weekend as all four age-grade sides fell to defeats to their provincial neighbours.
Munster U18 Women 14 – 24 Leinster U18 Women
Munster fell to a 24-12 defeat to Leinster in the opening round of the PWC U18 Women Interprovincials at Virgin Media Park on Saturday.
Both sides played excellent rugby at times with Munster dominating possession and territory in the opening stages.
Noel O’Meara’s side were inches from the Leinster line on a few occasions but all that good work went unrewarded when it was the visitors who struck first with a converted try to give Leinster a 0-7 lead.
Munster worked hard in the remainder of the first half, particularly in defence and it was Leinster who went in at half time with a seven point advantage.
In the second half, Munster scored two tries through Dolphin RFC’s Lily Byrne who was one of Munster’s standout players but it wasn’t enough as Leinster emerged as victors with a score line of 14-24.

Leinster U18 Schools 48 – 5 Munster U18 Schools
All roads led to Donnybrook Sunday morning as the Munster U18 Schools lined out against Leinster in Energia Park.
Leinster proved too strong for Matt Brown’s side as they were beaten 48-5.
Their sole try came from Castletroy College’s Robbie O’Donnell in the 27th minute.
Munster put in a valiant effort throughout the game and showed their ball handling prowess. But Leinster proved to be the better team on the day.
Next up for the team is a trip to Newforge Sports Complex this weekend to take on Ulster.

Leinster U18 Clubs 56 – 17 Munster U18 Clubs
The Munster U18 Clubs side also suffered defeat in Energia Park on Sunday afternoon after they were beaten 56-17 by a strong Leinster outfit.
Munster proved to step up to the plate in the opening quarter as they put in a strong shift in defense. But their demise came in their ill discipline awarding Leinster penalty advantage numerous times.
A try for scrum-half James Brugger in the 16th minute put Munster’s first score on the board. Ryan O’ Connor added the extras.
But Leinster retaliated scoring two tries of their own.
Munster never backed down and just before the break James Brugger crashed over in the corner for his second try of the afternoon bringing the sides to 20-12 at the half time whistle.
Leinster proved to dominate once again in the second half but Munster fought on and Brugger completed his hattrick in the 49th minute.
But this wasn’t enough as Leinster came away with the spoils with the score line finishing 56-17.

Leinster U19 24 – 17 Munster U19
The final game of the day in Energia Park saw the Munster U19s go down to the wire with just a try separating the sides at full time.
Munster struck first in the 15th minute as CBC’s Charlie O’Shea crashed over.
But Leinster bit back in the 25th minute to make it seven all.
A second try for the boys in blue followed as they made it 12-7 at the break.
Leinster were over again in the 39th minute making it 19-7 but Munster knew they had time.
With both sides down to 14 player after two yellow cards, Crescent College Comprehensive’s Jonathan Byrne crashed over in the 47th minute. Putting just five points between in the sides going into the closing stages.
But Leinster crossed over once more in the 57th minute, bringing the score line to 24-12 with just over 10 minutes to go.
Munster were not ready to concede, using the lineout to pepper runners along the try line where Leinster refused to buckle.
Finally replacement Munster hooker Darragh Prenter crashed over in the 66th minute bringing the final score to 24-17 in favour of Leinster.
It was a strong clash between both teams and a performance head coach Aiden McNulty can be proud of and take forward into the remainder of the competition.
