Round Up | Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Senior Cup

PBC pushed past Crescent College to book their place in the semi-finals.

CBC and PBC booked their places in the semi-finals of the Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Senior Cup, while Rockwell, St. Munchin’s, Castletroy and Crescent progress to the quarter-finals.

Bandon Grammar School and Ardscoil Rís exit the competition at this stage.

Bandon Grammar v Rockwell

Rockwell College secured their place in the quarter-final where they will face Crescent College following a 24-0 victory over Bandon Grammar at Irish Independent Park.

Winger Tom Tobin claimed an early score for Rockwell after four minutes before blindside flank Cathal Kelly crashed over to extend the Tipperary school’s lead. Out-half John O’Sullivan added the conversion.

Rockwell’s third try came courtesy of Dean Fanning who bustled over in the right corner following impressive play from the back line to locate the hooker out wide.

After the break, winger Peter Wall secured Rockwell’s fourth try following pressure at the line out in the 40th minute before O’Sullivan converted the score.

Bandon continued to fight and came close to scoring a consolation try in the closing stages.

Ardscoil Rís v St Munchin’s

St Munchin’s booked their place in the quarter-final where they will face Castletroy College after a narrow 13-12 win over Ardscoil Rís at Thomond Park.

Munchin’s got off to a great start with a penalty from Alex Wood after five minutes and minutes later it was 10-0 after Seamus McCarthy Burbage got in for a try which Wood converted.

Ten minutes before the interval Killian Dineen opened Ardscoil’s account with a try which Alex O’Halloran converted to leave it 10-7 at half time.

Wood increased Munchin’s lead with a penalty and a great cross field kick saw Lochlainn O’Keefe touch down in the corner with five minutes remaining.

CBC v Castletroy College

CBC progressed to the semi-final stage of the competition after a 32-21 win over Castletroy at Irish Independent Park, while the Limerick school will face St Munchin’s in the quarter-final.

Castletroy College took an early lead with a penalty from scrum-half Jack Oliver in the third minute.

CBC fought back through several phases of possession, but it was Castletroy who again took advantage of a penalty opportunity as Oliver sliced the posts in the 13th minute.

The Cork school responded with a try courtesy of an individual effort from David Kiely in the 31st minute, the winger sprinted from over half-way to cross in the right corner.

Minutes later, CBC centre George Coomber gathered a pass from out-half Shane Buckley to score and take the lead.

Half-time: Christian Brothers College 10-6 Castletroy College

Early pressure from CBC after the break resulted in Luke McAuliffe being held up over the line before a penalty try was awarded in the 43rd minute after several phases.

Castletroy went down to 14 men but responded with another successful penalty from Oliver moments later.

CBC then secured their fourth try of the match, winger Aaron Leahy racing down the right wing after the backs found space in the 47th minute.

A second yellow for Castletroy led to a penalty for CBC which Coomber secured minutes later to push his side further in front.

In the 58th minute, replacement Nesta Nyamakazi powered over from close range for Castletroy before Oliver added the extras.

Replacement Alan McDonald crossed under the posts for the Cork school in the closing stages and Coomber converted.

Castletroy then added a try with Oliver diving over after several phases.

CBC progress to the semi-final stage while Castletroy face St Munchin’s in the quarter-final.

PBC v Crescent College

PBC secured their spot in the semi-finals of the Schools Senior Cup with a 21-8 victory over Crescent College, while the Limerick school will face Rockwell in the quarter-final.

After five minutes, PBC took the lead with a try from full-back Patrick Campbell before scrum-half Alex Walsh converted.

Crescent responded with a well-taken penalty from out-half Ben Davey in the 15th minute.

Prop Billy Kingston charged over the line with the support of several others to secure Pres’ second, which Walsh converted in the 28th minute.

Half-time: PBC 14-3 Crescent College

Crescent scored first after the break, centre Darragh Casserly making ground in midfield to release Eoin Cantillon-Mann in the 49th minute.

PBC responded late on in the second-half, Number 8 Alex Kendellen powering over from close range in the 66th minute with Darragh French adding the extras.
