Round Up | Munster Schools Junior Cup Semi-Finals

Christian Brothers College and St Munchin’s College booked their places in the 2020 Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Junior Cup final this afternoon.

The final is scheduled for the week commencing March, 23.

CBC v Crescent College, Irish Independent Park

CBC took an early lead with second-row David Novak crashing over from the driving maul, which followed a fantastic break from centre Matthew O’Callaghan.

Hooker Adam Wrona extended the Cork school’s lead in the 11th minute after touching down before out-half Ben Lynch added the conversion.

CBC secured their third try with O’Callaghan racing over after winger Dan Lucey provided the try-scoring pass approaching the 20-minute mark.

Before the interval, Crescent hooker Lee O’Grady went over from close range before out-half Ciaran Campbell converted.

Crescent claimed the first score of the second-half with centre Anthony O’Connor crashing over the line before Campbell added the extras.

CBC’s O’Callaghan then secured his brace moments later to push his side further in front, as Lynch stepped up to convert.

Replacement Johnny O’Shea found space down the left wing to go over for CBC in the 51st minute.

Full-back Billy Kingston chipped through to score in the left corner minutes before the whistle after replacement Christian Kilbride made an outstanding break.

Ardscoil Rís v St Munchin’s College, Thomond Park

St Munchin’s qualified for their third successive Munster Schools Junior Cup final with an impressive win over Ardscoil Rís in their semi-final at Thomond Park.

Munchin’s were ahead 7-0 after five minutes with a try from Harry Bennis and Cillian O’Connor converted but a try by Scott Gleeson converted by Harry Long tied the scores after nine minutes.

Ardscoil went ahead four minutes later with a penalty by Long but two converted tries by star player Oisin Pepper both converted by O’Connor had Munchin’s 21-10 ahead at half-time.

Two further tries from Adam Cusack and Pepper’s third try extended the Corbally side’s lead to 31-10 before Andrew Lyons got Ardscoil’s second try midway through the half.

Munchin’s completed the scoring with their sixth try Oisin Minogue and O’Connor added the extras.
