St Munchin’s College and Rockwell College secured their places in the semi-finals of the Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Senior Cup with respective victories over Castletroy College and Crescent College at Markets Field this afternoon.

Rockwell will take on Christian Brothers College at Irish Independent Park on Tuesday, February 25, while St Munchin’s meet Presentation Brothers College at the Cork venue on Wednesday, February 26.

Castletroy College v St Munchin’s

St Munchin’s took an early lead in the ninth minute with hooker Jack Devanny powering over off the back of the maul.

Castletroy then responded through Jack Oliver, the scrum-half touching down from close range in the 17th minute, before stepping up to convert his own try.

Minutes later, St Munchin’s found space out-wide to locate Conor O’Shaughnessy on the right wing who raced over.

A penalty for Castletroy’s Oliver levelled the scores at 10-10 after 26 minutes.

An individual effort from winger James O’Brien converted by Alexander Wood then sent Munchin’s into the lead.

Wood converted a penalty opportunity after the break.

St Munchin’s pushed further in front come the 54th minute with prop Kean Sheehy intercepting a pass to run in and score under the posts, as Wood added the extras.

Castletroy fought back with a spell of possession in the 22 before second-row Sam DenDikken charged through a gap and Oliver converted.

A fantastic move down the left wing resulted in Oliver bagging his second try, centre Jason Aylward found winger Mark Lyons who provided the inside ball. Oliver added the conversion in the 68th minute.

St Munchin’s retained possession despite pressure from Castletroy in the closing stages before the final whistle sounded.

Crescent College v Rockwell College

Rockwell Captain Alan Flannery opened the scoring with a powerful break to touch down in the 20th minute before John O’Sullivan added the conversion.

Minutes later, Crescent impressed in the 22 and it wasn’t long before winger David Murphy received the ball out-wide to race over in the right corner.

It what was a tight contest for most of the second-half, Rockwell centre Sam Tarleton eventually found a gap and broke through to go clear under the posts in the 50th minute. O’Sullivan added the extras.

Rockwell extended their lead in the 56th minute, Flannery providing the offload for full-back Joshua O’Dwyer to show power and pace and secure the Tipperary school’s third try of the match. O’Sullivan converted a tricky attempt.

O’Sullivan attempted a drop goal in the 63rd minute only to be denied by the post.

O’Dwyer then released O’Sullivan for Rockwell’s fourth try inside the closing minutes, as the out-half then converted his own score.
