Round Up | Schools Senior Cup Semi-Finals

Cork rivals CBC and PBC booked their places in the 2020 Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Senior Cup final this week to set-up a repeat of the 2019 final.

CBC v Rockwell

Holders CBC defeated Rockwell College 22-10 in the first semi-final at Irish Independent Park to secure their spot in the final of the competition.

Rockwell claimed the first try of the match after winger Peter Wall went over in the corner.

CBC out-half Cian Whooley then chipped over the top before centre Jack Morehead touched down in the 12th minute and George Coomber converted.

The Cork school extended their lead minutes later through Andrew O’Mahony who received a pass from Whooley to go over.

Coomber secured a brilliant conversion before adding a penalty ahead of the interval.

CBC’s Ronan O’Sullivan bustled over before Rockwell landed a final try courtesy of Tom Tobin in the final stages.

PBC v St Munchin’s

PBC defeated St Munchin’s College 33-10 in the second semi-final at Irish Independent Park to secure their place in the final.

It was Munchin’s who took the lead in the 15th minute with a penalty from out-half Alexander Wood.

A loose pass in midfield led to Wood reacting quickly before racing over under the posts after 20 minutes. The out-half converted his own score.

Pres soon responded through Number 8 Alex Kendellen who crossed from close range following a penalty.

Sam O’Sullivan levelled the scores after selling a dummy to cross for PBC before Alex Walsh added the extras.

Kendellen secured his brace minutes into the second-half to extend his side’s lead as Walsh converted.

Pres pushed further in front with an individual score from Daniel Hurley and a try from fellow winger James Keohane before the final whistle. Walsh converted both.

Crescent College Comprehensive and St Munchin’s booked their places in the Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Junior Cup semi-finals after pushing past Rockwell College and PBC respectively.

On Wednesday 4 March, Crescent will face CBC at Irish Independent Park while St Munchin’s take on Ardscoil Rís at Thomond Park, both at 2pm.
