As the emerging schools initiative continues throughout the province, transition year and  fifth year students recently took part in a Tag Rugby blitz at Tralee RFC.

Twenty two teams from Kerry secondary schools representing Colaiste Li Gleann Tralee, Causeway Comprehensive, Killarney Community College, Killrglin Community College, Colaiste na Sceilge and KDYS Tralee came together to showcase their running, evading and passing skills during the one day event.

Community Rugby Officer Ray Gadsden said on the blitzs’ completion

“This format has given players an opportunity to experience the game in a competitive environment.  Following on from this we have seen new players coming into the club scene which has helped increase numbers and give more players, more rugby.

“From our department’s perspective the quality of the rugby has improved from blitz to blitz and the competing schools should be proud of their players and a great finals day is something they can now look forward to.”

Munster Rugby would like to thank all the schools for supporting the event and a special mention to JJ Creagh for coordinating the day.
