Rugby Development Activity On World Mental Health Day

A number of initiatives took place across the province on World Mental Health Day.

The Munster Rugby Development Department ran a number of rugby activities and events today as part of an ongoing grow the game initiative across the province.

Scariff RFC hosted a Play Rugby Programme with over 180 primary school students from a number of different schools in Clare participating in a Rugby World Cup themed event.

There were also girls schools X7s blitzes in both Shannon RFC and Rockwell College as well as a number of coach and player development sessions taking place in PBC, Bandon Grammar, St Munchin’s, and Castleisland RFC this afternoon.

Growing the game, keeping kids active and safe while also making it fun for all is the key focus for the Munster Rugby Development Department.

Recognising the benefits of an active lifestyle, Munster Rugby Participation Manager Damon Urlich commented: “It was great to have such activity across the province again today.

“We also had two large blitzes in Cork yesterday, for both boys and girls, and look forward to hosting more events throughout the season.

“Keeping active plays an important part in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and a positive mindset.”

Cathal Sheridan, former Munster player and Munster Rugby Mental Skills Coach, also reflected on World Mental Health Day, highlighting the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) awareness campaign focusing on “40 seconds of action,”

Sheridan explained that today is about raising awareness of mental health issues and taking the time to talk to one other.
