Rugby Development At St. Mary’s Secondary School
12th April 2013 By Munster Rugby
Munster Rugby recently held a Leprechaun Rugby Course for transition year students at St Mary’s Secondary School in Mallow, Co. Cork.
The course was run in two separate groups with over forty students taking part.
Course participants spent the day learning about Leprechaun Rugby and its importance in teaching the young players the game.
All participating students took part in practical and theory modules which focused on the primary core skills and principles of rugby. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of physical literacy for the young player and also how the players learn their skills through the fun element of the sport.
In conjunction with representatives from the girls’ rugby section in Mallow RFC the students also coached their school’s first year students on Leprechaun Rugby.
St. Mary’s Secondary School will be holding a Leprechaun Rugby Blitz day for the transition year coaches and their teams before the end of school year.
