On Monday, 16th January, an Active Coach Badge (ACB) Defence workshop was held at the University of Limerick. This was just one of a number of ACB defence workshops which were held throughout the province in January.

On the same night, an ACB defence workshop was held in Musgrave Park which was run by Coach and Player Development Officer Eneliko Fa’atau.

On 30th January, Elite Player Development Officer Brendan O’Connor and Rugby Development Officer Ben Swindlehurst ran the same workshop in Fethard Town Park while Pathway Development Coach Matt Brown, Rugby Development Officer Euan Gee and Participation Programme Co-ordinator Ray Gadsden also ran an event in MTU Tralee.

The ACB Workshops are continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities for coaches in the province which take place throughout the season. Click here for more information.

A TY Coaching Course also took place for students of St Declan’s Community College in Kilmacthomas, Co. Waterford.

The TY program is designed to introduce students to a holistic rugby development approach and support their understanding of technical, tactical, physical and lifestyle components associated with rugby development.

The program supports the student competencies with coaching and event management, in many cases creating local primary school events or blitzes, which are managed and co-ordinated by the TY students with Munster Rugby staff.

The game promoted is ‘Rugby Prime’, a non-contact version of rugby, which can be played with small and large numbers, in halls, yards, grass areas and on pitches.
