Rugby Development September Round-Up

With the new season underway, September was a busy month for the Rugby Development Department with a number of coaching and participation events taking place throughout the province.
See below for a round-up of what took place.
Participation
On Wednesday, September 6th, the CCRO (Club & Community Rugby Officer) Induction Day took place in Musgrave Park.
The CCROs will be working with clubs and schools across the province over the next eight months, introducing rugby into the school through PE classes and helping to link the schools with their local clubs.
The induction day allowed the CCROs to plan their schedules for the coming season and also to go through the various drills and games that they will be implementing with the playing groups throughout the year.

At the end of September, 170 players took part in an U16 Schools Tag Rugby Blitz in Old Crescent which consisted of 15 teams from seven different schools.
A Twilight 10s Blitz took place in Musgrave Park with U20s teams from Sundays Well, UCC, Dolphin and Kanturk taking part on the night.
Another Twilight 10s competition will take place in MTU Cork in October.
Coaching
There were a number of coaching courses which took place in September.
A Children’s Coaching Course took place in Tralee RFC on Saturday, September 23rd which is designed for participants who want to coach rugby to Minis players aged 5-12.
A scrum workshop was also held by Head of Rugby Development Colm McMahon for Junior club Ardscoil Old Boys RFC.
A Children’s Coaching course was also held in Munster Rugby’s Regional Centre of Excellence in Fethard Town Park at the end of September.
A World Rugby educator course was held in Musgrave Park in September which was designed to assist the coach development educators within the Rugby Development and Rugby Participation departments of Munster Rugby.
The course will further assist those educators to further collaborate with staff across the various departments in Munster Rugby.

Player Development
At the end of September, the winter programmes for the regional development squads, the club select player squads and position specific coaching sessions all got underway and they will continue to take place over the coming weeks and months.
