RWC7s Countdown: Getting To Know Jeannette Feighery

The Ireland Women’s Sevens squad have arrived in Moscow for the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens.

The women are placed in pool B with South Africa, defending Champions Australia and China. The 3 pool games will take place this Saturday.

For a side that was struck down with a number of injuries before the squad announcement, Saturday certainly presents a tough task for the girls in green. But as newcomers to the Sevens programme they have showed their resilience and steady progression by picking up recent titles in China, London and Brive, and according to 7s Captain Claire Molloy they "are ready and relishing the challenge ahead."

Included in the World Cup squad are Munster players Jeannette Feighery and Laura O’Mahony and we caught up with the girls in a two-part series in the build-up to this weekend's tournament.

Name: Jetty

DOB: 31/01/1984

Birthplace: Co. Offaly

Height: 166cm

Position: Scrum half/Out half for 7s; Centre/Wing for 15s

Honours: Three Munster Interprovincial Championships; 20 Irish Caps including the 15s World Cup in Canada, Europeans and Six Nations; Captained the Irish 7s in Hong Kong 2013, winning the Bowl; Sevens Plate winners in China, London and Brive 2013.

Club: UL Bohemian – 7 All Ireland League Titles, 4 All Ireland Cups, Captain of UL Bohemian 2012/2013

Where and when did you first play rugby: School, we had a TY programme where the girls and boys were thrown into games for 4 weeks..loved it!

Biggest influence on career: Ian Costello, family and UL Bohs club mates

Best career advice you were given: Enjoy every opportunity you get in the game.

What you like most/least about being a rugby player: Most – travel and all of the amazing people I have met through it. Least – Injuries

Other sports that you played: Camogie, Athletics

Best rugby memory: Personal one is captaining Bohs and getting my first Irish cap. Other ones are seeing the girls winning the Grand Slam and being a spectator at the Lions in 2009

Rugby team you admire most: Munster, love the passion!

Sporting event you would most like to attend: A World Cup Final with Ireland in it…or another All Ireland with Offaly in it (I think the first is more likely!!)

Three people you would invite to dinner and why: Nelson Mandela because he is just an amazing and inspirational man. My mother because she has some great stories and would keep everyone entertained for the night! Kate Sheehan because she is a great at ordering wine!
