Saturday Senior Rugby Roundup

Cork Constitution have moved into the play off places in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League as Garryowen were the only Limerick side to record a win.

Cork Constitution travelled to leaders UCD in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League and defeated the Student 58-15 to move ahead of Garryowen (a side they meet next week in Temple Hill) on points’ difference.

Con’ scored seven tries and led 13-8 at half time. Aaron Spring (2), Max Abbott, Ryan Foley, Johnny Holland, Tomas Quinlan and Darragh Lyons were Con’s try scorers. Holland kicked six conversions and three penalties. Tomas Quinlan also added a conversion.

Garryowen kept their challenge alive with a 12-3 home win over Terenure College. Neill Cronin kicked four penalties for the Light Blues who led 6-3 at half time.

Young Munster still remain in third place despite losing to Clontarf 42-25 at Castle Avenue. The Dublin side are now the new leaders in the Division.
Munsters did secure a try bonus point with tries from Gary Fitzgerald, Darragh O'Neill, David O'Mahony and James O'Connor. Gearoid Lyons kicked a conversion and a penalty.

The Three Munster sides in Division 1B all lost.

Dolphin, who defeated Belfast Harlequins last week with a last minute try, lost this weekend away to Old Wesley 31-30. Dolphin led 20-7 at half time and had tries from Chris Rowe (2) and Killian O'Keeffe. Barry Keeshan kicked three penalties and three conversions.

Shannon lost away to Ballymena 30-23.Tony Cusack and Stephen Fitzgerald scored tries for Shannon. Stephen Fitzgerald and Tadhg Bennett each kicked a conversion and Bennett also landed three penalties.

U.L. Bohemian lost at home to promotion chasing Dublin University 42-13 and still remain in the relegation play off place. Ian Condell and Rick McKenna scored tries for UL Bohes and McKenna kicked a penalty.

Sunday’s Well defeated Rainey Old Boys 17-3 to move into second place in Division 2B. Mark Chandler scored a try for the ‘Well and Shane O’Riordan kicked four penalties.

Midleton defeated Kanturk 17-10 in Division 2C. Aidan McCarthy and Louis Farnham scored tries for Midleton and Stuart Lee converted both and also added a penalty. Barro Buckley replied with a try for Kanturk and Stephen McAulliffe kicked a conversion and a penalty.

The Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Cup tie between U.C.C. and Old Crescent was postponed because the Mardyke ground was unplayable.
