School Cup Victories For Cork Sides.
1st February 2012 By Munster Rugby
Both C.B.C. and P.B.C. made winning starts to their Avonmore Munster Schools Senior Cup campaigns with victories over Ard Scoil Ris and Crescent College Comprehensive and Castletroy College defeated Rockwell in the Avonmore Supermilk Munster Schools Junior Cup.
C.B.C. 22, Ard Scoil Ris 0.
Christians served notice that they will be no push over in this season’s Avonmore SuperMilk Munster Schools Senior Cup tie at Temple Hill, where they had a comfortable victory.
The foundation for this victory was an excellent display by the pack who drove the Limerick school back time and time again at the maul.
Both sides were off target with early penalty attempts Ronan McKenna for the Limerick school and Dave O’Riordan for Christians.
The Sydney Hill College could have had this game wrapped up by half time if the ball was spread out across the back line, instead of individuals going for the try line with men to spare outside.
The Cork side had to wait for nineteen minutes before breaking the deadlock when following a series of drives at the line by the pack, the ball went out the back line and Tom Moorhead touched down.
The Yellow carding of Ard Scoil’s wing forward David O’Halloran for a deliberate interception from an off side position eight minutes before the break proved costly as Christians ran in their second try two minutes later.
Following a scrum the ball was quickly passed out to winger Adam Finn who scored in the corner.
Six minutes into the second half a great break by prop Charlie Slowey from just inside the Ard Scoil half was halted short of the line and quick ball saw full back Tomas Quinlan touch down.
Christians completed the scoring on fifty one minutes when a delicate cross field kick by out half Dave O’Riordan was gathered by winger Finn who touched down and O’Riordan converted.

P.B.C. 17, Crescent College Comprehensive 8.
An exciting contest at Musgrave Park saw P.B.C. earn a home quarter final tie against the losers of next week’s tie between Glenstal Abbey and holders Rockwell College.
This game was in the balance right up to six minutes from time when Pres’ center Seamus Glynn went in for his side’s second try and Steven Dinan converted to put the game beyond Crescent.
Pres’ opened the scoring with a try from winger Rory Fenton after sixteen minutes and Dinan converted.
Gearoid Lyons kicked a drop goal for Crescent minutes later but Pres’ out half Rory Scannell restored his side’s seven point advantage with a drop goal.
Winger Nigel Kerr scored a try for Crescent to leave it 10-8 at half time in favour of Pres’.
The second half was evenly contested until Glynn’s late try, a result that will now see Crescent travel to Cork for a quarter final meeting with Christian Brothers College in two weeks time.

A late rally by Rockwell just failed as Castletroy College began their Avonmore SuperMilk Munster Schools Junior Cup campaign with a victory at Clonmel.
Conor Linehan opened the scoring with a penalty for Castletroy but Rockwell hit back with center Willie Coffey going in for a try and Bill Johnston converted. Castletroy’s number 8 Ronan Murphy gave the Limerick College an 8-7 half time lead with a try.
Two penalties from Linehan extended Castletroy’s advantage to seven points.
Rockwell went in search of an equalising score in the latter stages of the game and Coffey got in for his second try in injury time but the ever reliable Johnston was off target with the conversion to tie up the scores.
