Schools Junior Cup Report | Bandon Defeat High School Clonmel
29th January 2019 By The Editor
Bandon Grammar School progressed to the quarter-final stages of the Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Junior Cup with a 27-7 victory over High School Clonmel CBS at Irish Independent Park on Wednesday afternoon.
The opening try came courtesy of Conor Ahern after sustained pressure in the 22 from Bandon Grammar resulted in the prop crashing over to put his side in front, before Liam McCarthy added the conversion after 13 minutes.
An effective run down the right win from High School centre Lekan Oki caused Bandon some trouble minutes later with the resulting penalty going the way of the West Cork school, as they cleared their lines.
Bandon went through the phases and were soon rewarded with another penalty opportunity within striking distance before out-half Louis Archer extended the Grammar School’s lead.
Bandon continued to assert pressure and turned possession into points with Archer’s second penalty before the interval.

After the break, Bandon went further ahead with their second try of the match, scored by wing Jamie Hayes, who showed terrific pace to touch down in the right corner. Archer added the extras.
Impressive link play between the Bandon Grammar backs resulted in Number 8 Adam Murphy powering over right of the posts to secure his side’s third try, converted by Archer.
High School’s Harley Joy Horan made a break down the left wing to gain quick momentum for the Tipperary school, while Number 8 Oran Ryan made a run through the middle in the closing stages.
High School’s Oki continued to threaten and the ball eventually made its way to fellow centre, Emre Yasar, who beat several defenders before jinking his way over to score a consolation try. Out-half Chris Ryan added the conversion with a minute to spare until the final whistle sounded.
