CBC defeat Midleton College in the Munster Schools Senior Cup as St. Clements win Mungret Shield and C.B.C. lift the Kidney Cup.

Christian Brothers College booked their place in the First round of the Munster Schools Senior Cup with an emphatic victory over recently crowned Mungret Cup winners Midleton College at the Towns Park.

The winners ran in ten tries six in the opening half but this does not tell the great performance put in by Midleton as they attempted to halt wave after wave of Christian attacks.

Midleton were dealt a devastating blow before the game when injuries and the flu which is currently running rampant through the College deprived them of several players, but those that took the field put in a very workman like performance.

Patrick O’Riordan, Odhran Baily, Adam Pennington and Bryan Moore were some of the Midleton players that can be proud of their performance.

Christians prop Rory Burke opened the scoring after three minutes with a try after a series of drives by Christians at the Midleton line were repelled. Alex O’Regan converted.

Winger Rory Slater was in for their second try on ten minutes after a delightful chip by out half Thomas Quinlan over the Midleton defence.

Luke Deane replied with a penalty shortly after for Midleton but Alex Penney son of Munster Coach Rob scored their third shortly minutes later.

A try by winger Chris McAuliffe after nineteen minutes when he out sprinted the home defence to score in the corner.

Two tries by Shane McAuliffe in a ten minute period before half time left it 32-3 in favour of the visitors at half time.

Christians were back on the scoresheet a minute into the second when Shane Gill touched down and O’Neill converted. Scrum half Ryan Foley was next to score and two further tries by O’Neill and Shane McAuliffe (his third of the game) completed the scoring with O’Neill converting both.

St Clement’s 8, Bandon Grammar 3.

St. Clement’s held out against a sustained Bandon assault to retain the Mungret Shield with a narrow victory at Charleville.

First half honours were even and St Clement’s took advantage of a five metre scrum for Eoghan Murnane to score the game’s only try.

Nathan Clancy (St. Clement’s) and Luke Kingston (Bandon Grammar) exchanged penalties as Bandon dominated the second half and were camped in the Clement’s half but unforced errors proved costly for the West Cork side.

C.B.C. 11, Ardscoil Ris 8

Christian Brothers College won their third trophy of the season with this victory at Wilton which saw them lift the Kidney Cup after a four year absence in an exciting finish.

Ardscoil opened the scoring with a David Broderick penalty. Sean Lotty levelled with a penalty for the Sydney Hill College and a try by Jeff Hodder gave Christians an 8-3 interval lead.

In a pulsating second half Luke Doherty levelled with a try for the Limerick side with six minutes remaining, but Lotty was Christians hero with a last minute penalty.
