7th February 2018 By Leonard Allen
The opening quarter-finals in the Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Senior Cup resulted in home wins with both Cork Schools recording big winning margins.
At Rosbrien, Crescent College Comprehensive defeated Rockwell 27-20.
Crescent raced into an early 10-0 lead with tries from Conor Fitzgerald and Daire Feasy.
Rockwell hit back and were level 10-10 with a Conall Kennedy try and a conversion and a penalty from Jake Flannery.
Crescent extended their lead to 22-10 with tries from Conor Philips (converted by John Hurley) and Feasy. Rockwell finished with a late rally that yielded a Flannery penalty and a conversion of a Tom Russell try to leave two between the sides.

At Temple Hill, CBC advanced on a 58-17 score line against a gallant St. Clement’s side but the result does not do justice to the Limerick side’s performance.
Twice in the opening half Clement’s came from behind to level but once Christians upped the ante in the second half they ran in seven tries to one to be deserving winners.
Robert Hedderman and John Bateman exchanged penalties before Adam O’Connor got in at the corner for the first of his three tries and Hedderman expertly converted from the side line.
A try from Adam Marshall converted by Bateman levelled the scores ten minutes before the interval.
In injury time Hedderman put Christians ahead with a try which he converted for a 17-10 half time lead.
Early tries for CBC from Robert Loftus, Eoghan Barrett and O’Connor stretched their lead to 34-10 with twelve minutes of the second half played.
Barrett, O’Connor, Hedderman and Scott Buckley added further tries for the winners and Shane Brosnahan replied with a Clement’s try which Bateman converted.

Holders PBC are through to the semi-finals of the Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Senior Cup as they defeated Ard Scoil Ris 67-7 in a lopsided quarter final at Irish Independent Park.

Ard Scoil Ris had their moments in the second quarter, but bad handling on the Mardyke College’s 22 was proving to be costly.

For most of the second half, PBC played exhibition rugby. French and O’Donovan increased the margin to ten points with unconverted tries.
Louis Bruce sprinted three-quarters the length of the pitch to dive under the bar and James Broderick converted to increase the Mardyke College’s total to 50 points.
