Christian Brothers College defeated Ardscoil Rís 48-12 in the semi-final of the Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Senior Cup at Irish Independent Park this afternoon.

CBC took an early lead after pressuring from the kick-off with centre Harry O’Riordan touching down out-wide in the second minute.

The Cork school continued to dominate and it wasn’t long before Number 8 Cian Hurley made his way over from close range left of the posts. Full-back Billy Cain added the conversion.

On the 10-minute mark, O’Riordan claimed his second after weaving through the defence to go over under the sticks before Cain secured the extras with the boot.

Ardscoil found themselves in the CBC 22 after a sustained period of pressure and were rewarded with a scrum metres out, scrum-half Ian Leonard found Daniel Okeke on a looping charge as the Number 8 crashed over.

CBC soon responded with the forwards making ground before the ball was fed along the line and out-wide to winger Aaron Leahy who dotted down in the left corner.

Ardscoil fought back once more before the break with an impressive run from Okeke setting the platform for prop Alex Long to barge his way over. John Moloney added the conversion.

CBC’s Cain found himself on the end of a slick passage of play from the backs to score his side’s fifth try of the match before converting his own try.

A period of possession for Ardscoil after the interval resulted in another scoring opportunity for CBC who took advantage of a long range penalty through the boot of Cain.

Replacement Dylan McAuliffe then secured another try for CBC, crashing over with the help of a driving maul while Cain landed the conversion.

A loose ball resulted in a CBC pick-up and charge forward before out-half Cian Whooley stepped the defence to record his side’s seventh try of the match. Whooley converted his own try with 10 minutes remaining on the clock.
