Christian Brothers College edged out Crescent College Comprehensive 21-19 in a thrilling quarter-final tie at Thomond Park in the Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Senior Cup.

Christians got off to a great start with a try from John Willis after 14 minutes.

It was 12-0 three minutes later with Harry O’Riordan crossing the line for the visitors and Billy Cain converting.

Tries by Ben Carew and Maccon Casserly plus a conversion from Jack Delaney had Crescent level by the 32nd minute but a Cain penalty restored Christians’ advantage.

On the stroke of half-time, a try by Jack Madden converted by Delaney gave Crescent a 19-15 half-time lead.

Penalties from Cain on 39 and 70 minutes edged Christians ahead and they had to withstand a late challenge from Crescent before advancing.
