Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Challenge Cup Round-Up

There were wins for all three Limerick clubs in the Second Round of the Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Cup as well as victories for Cork Constitution and Dolphin in Cork Charity Cup and Shield semi-finals.

Kilfeacle took on Shannon on their home patch but it was the Limerick side who came out on top after a hard earned 28-8 victory. Indeed Kilfeacle were in this game until the final quarter when Shannon ran in three tries. Will Leonard got one and Jack O’Donnell two.
In an evenly contested opening half Ben Daly gave Shannon the lead with a penalty but Willie Staunton levelled. O’Donnell scored the first of his three tries but the sides were level 8-8 at half time when Keith Burke crossed the line for the home side. Daly kicked his second penalty six minutes into the second half before Shannon’s experience told.
Old Crescent proved too strong for Cashel at Rosbrien winning 28-17. A try from Cathal Monaghan converted by Ronan McKenna put the home side in front but Cashel replied with a try from Cormac O’Donnell. A McKenna penalty made it 10-5 at the interval.
Tries from Gary Fitzgerald and Jack O’Mahony a conversion and two penalties by McKenna extended Crescent’s lead to 28-5. Cashel finished with late tries from Conor Cashman and Aidan Butler plus a conversion from Dan O’Neill.
U.L. Bohemian proved too strong for Sunday’s Well at Irish Independent Park emerging 45-16 winners. Jamie McNamara and Niall O’Shea each scored two tries for the winners and Darragh O’Grady, David O’Connor and Paul Clancy were the other try scorers. Harry Byrne converted five of the seven tries. Conor McCarthy replied with two tries for the ‘Well and Rob Egar kicked two penalties.
The line-up for next week’s quarter finals is – UCC v Highfield (Friday), Garryowen v Old Crescent, Shannon v UL Bohemian and Young Munster v Cork Constitution.
Holders Cork Constitution defeated U.C.C. 52-19 in the semi-final of the Cork Charity Cup at Temple Hill. Niall Kenneally (2), Tomas Quinlan, Greg Higgins, Barry Galvin, Dave Hyland, Rob Jermyn and Mike Casey were Con’s try scorers. Aidan Moynihan kicked four conversions and Quinlan two. College replied with tries from Adam O’Connor, Cian Barry and Rob Hedderman. James Taylor kicked two conversions.
Dolphin defeated Clonmel 34-28 in the semi-final of the Cork Charity Shield at Clonmel. Dolphin who led 24-0 at one stage in the opening half had to withstand a great comeback by the Tipperary side. Adam McAuliffe, Brian O’Mahony, Alex Molloy and Craig O’Connell scored tries for Dolphin and Daryl Foley converted all four tries and added two penalties. Luke Hogan replied with two tries for Clonmel and Rob Wynne and Mikey Lonergan got one each. Dylan Cadogan converted all four tries.
