Senior Club Round-Up
2nd November 2014 By Munster Rugby
Young Munster caused a big shock at Temple Hill as Garryowen were surprisingly beaten at home by Trinity in Division 1B.
A penalty by Ben Martin and a drop goal from Willie Staunton inside the opening four minutes helped Young Munster to a 9-6 away win over Cork Constitution in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League. Gerry Hurley kicked two penalties for the home side to leave the sides level at half-time. A penalty by Ben Martin twelve minutes from time decided the issue.
Dolphin are still without a win but got a credible 22-22 draw away to Old Belvedere at Anglesea Road. Playing into the wind in the opening half a try from Niall Scannell converted by Eamon Mills left the Cork side trailing 15-7 at the interval. Tries from Chris Rowe and John Quill and a conversion and a last minute penalty by Stuart Lee earned Dolphin a share of the spoils.
In Division 1B, Garryowen lost ground on the leaders when they lost to Dublin University 14-8 at Dooradoyle.
Twice Garryowen were reduced to fourteen and even when the visitors had a player sin binned near the end the home side by that stage were facing into the strong wind and rain and they could not manage to capitalise. Josh Hrstich had Garryowen's try and Jamie Gavin kicked a penalty.
Shannon are bottom of the table following their 26-21 defeat by Belfast Harlequins at Thomond Park. A try from Luke O’Dea and a David O’Donovan penalty saw the home side trail 13-8 at half time. Hugh Kelleher and John Shine added tries after the break and O’Donovan kicked a second penalty to earn Shannon a losing bonus point.
