Senior Club Round-Up

It was a good day for the three Munster clubs in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League as they all won and UL Bohemian defeated Shannon by the narrowest of margins in the Limerick derby at UL grounds in 1B.

Young Munster maintained their top of the table position with a 31-23 win over Terenure College at Lakelands Park. The home side led 13-7 at half time but three second half tries secured them maximum points.
David Gleeson, Jack Harrington, Rob Guerin and Ger Slattery were their try scorers for the Cookies and David O’Mahony converted all four and added one penalty.

Cork Constitution remain in fourth place after their 24-17 home win over defending champions Clontarf.
The visitors led 17-14 at half time with Shane Daly and James Murphy scoring tries for the Lilywhites and Tomás Quinlan converting both. Ned Hodson scored a third try in the second half for Constitution and Quinlan converted and also added a penalty.

Garryowen moved out of the relegation zone with 43-38 win over St. Mary’s College at Dooradoyle in a game that produced 13 tries. The home side led 22-7 at the interval but a late rally by the Dublin side that yielded three converted tries saw Mary’s return home with two bonus points.
Niall Horan, David Johnston, Liam Coombes, Alwyn van Vuuren, Hugh O'Brien-Cunningham and Elliot Fitzgerald scored tries for Garryowen and they were also awarded a penalty try. Neil Cronin kicked four conversions.

UL Bohemian got back to winning ways with a hard earned derby win over Shannon on the 4G pitch at UL on a 14-13 scoreline in Division 1B. Shannon led 8-7 at half time with a try from Lee Nicholas and a Conor Fitzgerald penalty. UL Bohs were awarded a penalty try and Rick McKenna converted.
The Robins went ahead with a try from Finbarr Aherne which McKenna converted. Shane Mullally scored a try in the corner to secure Shannon a losing bonus point.

UCC put a serious dent on Ballynahinch’s promotion hopes with a 15-10 away win. Tries from Cathal Gallagher and Chris McAuliffe and a conversion by Kevin O’Keeffe gave the students a 12-3 interval lead. O’Keeffe added a penalty after the break.

Dolphin came from 10-9 down at half time to defeat high flying Naas 15-10 at Irish Independent Park to move off the foot of the table. Cillian Monaghan kicked three penalties for the home side and Cian McGovern two.

Nenagh Ormond have taken over top spot in Division 2A after their 28-6 home win over Galway Corinthians.
Willie Coffey scored two tries for the Tipperary side and John Flaherty got one. Clayton Stewart kicked two conversions and three penalties.

Highfield have moved into fourth place with a 73-5 win over bottom side Belfast Harlequins. The winners scored ten tries. Luke Kingston (2), Peter Martin (2), Dave O’Connell, Dave Kelly, Kevin Foyle, Mia Cronin, Fintan O’Sullivan and Paddy O’Toole were Highfield’s try scorers. O’Toole converted all ten tries and also added a penalty.

Sunday’s Well earned a 16-16 draw away to Malone but were fortunate to see a last minute Malone penalty come back off the upright. Aaron Sweeney scored a try for the ‘Well and Shane O’Riordan converted and added three penalties.

Cashel put up a great display away to leaders Banbridge before going down 7-5. Michael Kelly was Cashel’s try scorer.

In Division 2B Old Crescent defeated bottom side City of Derry 59-0. Larry Hanley, Brendan Guilfoyle and Brian Tuohy all scored two tries and Garrett Quinn McDonagh and Val McDermott also touched down. Barry Neville kicked a penalty and six conversions and Shane O'Brien landed two conversions.

Thomond lost away to leaders City of Armagh 71-10. Fintan Cross scored a try for the Limerick side which Alan Wallace converted. Dermot Fitzgerald kicked a penalty.

Bruff won the big relegation battle in Division 2C away to Kanturk 36-8. A penalty try, a Tony Cahill try both converted by Tony Cahill gave Bruff a 14-8 half time lead. Olan Daly replied with a try for Kanturk and Conor Cremin kicked a penalty.

Two tries from Mike Cooke and one each from Jack Burns and Johnny Cleary secured Bruff a bonus point win. Brian Cahill kicked a conversion.

Midleton got themselves back into the promotion race with a 22-20 away win over Sligo. Paul Daly, James Colbert and Daniel Murray scored tries for the East Cork side and Stuart Lee kicked two conversions and a penalty.
