Senior Club Roundup

It was a bad day for both Garryowen and Young Munster in Dublin as both lost but UL Bohemian move up to second place in Division 1B as seven games were postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

Young Munster failed to close the gap on leaders Lansdowne in Division 1A after their 20-13 away defeat at Belfield by UCD. A try by Rob Guerin and a conversion and penalty by Alan Tynan saw Munsters lead 10-9 at half time but they could only add another penalty in the second half as the Dublin students replied with a try and two penalties.

Cork Constitution maintained their place in third as they came from 10-5 down at half time to beat Old Belvedere 16-10 at Temple Hill. Brian Hayes and Luke Cahill were try scorers for Con’ and Tomás Quinlan kicked two penalties.

A first half penalty from Neil Cronin was not enough for Garryowen as they lost 19-3 away to Dublin University and slipped back to eight place in the table.

UL Bohemian moved up to second place in Division 1B after their 30-23 away win at Ballymena coming from 13-10 down at half time. Harry Fleming, Robbie Bourke, and Colin Ryan scored tries for UL Bohes. Rick McKenna kicked two conversions and three penalties and Bourke also added a conversion.

Shannon bounced back from their recent defeat by Dolphin to beat U.C.C. 20-13 on the back pitch in Thomond Park. It was 10-6 to the Parish side at half time who had tries from Niall Mulcahy and Greg O’Shea with Conor Fitzgerald converting both and also adding two penalties. Ritchie Walsh replied with a try for the students and Kevin O’Keeffe converted and kicked two penalties.

Dolphin still remain routed to the bottom of the table after their 19-5 away defeat by leaders Buccaneers.
Dave O’Mahony scored a second half try for Dolphin.

With four of the top five sides in Division 2A idle because of waterlogged pitches, Banbridge took full advantage to take top spot with a 27-0 away win over bottom side Belfast Harlequins.

Cashel eased their relegation worries with a 23-14 away win at Blackrock College, Ollie McGlinchey and Cody Baker scored tries for the Tipperary side and McGlinchey converted both and added three penalties.

Old Crescent maintained their challenge for a playoff place after their 17-0 away win at Donnybrook against Bective Rangers.

The visitors led 10-0 at half time and had tries from Brian Touhy and Gareth Quinn McDonagh. Shane O’Brien converted both and also added a penalty.

Thomond still remain bottom of this Division following their 28-22 home defeat by MU Barnhall but picked up two bonus points. Wayne Mullaney, Kevin O’Mahony, Cian Coady and Dave O’Halloran scored tries for Thomond and O’Mahony kicked one conversion.

Bruff’s hopes of making the play offs received a setback when they lost at home to leaders Navan 15-8. Maghnus Collins was Bruff’s try scorer.
