Young Munster defeat leaders Lansdowne in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League as Highfield take over top spot in Division 2A.
The majority of the scores at Tom Clifford Park came in the opening half as Young Munster led 16-10 at the interval with a try from Cian Bohane and a conversion and three penalties by Alan Tynan.
The only score of the second half was a fourth Tynan penalty that saw Munsters win 19-10 and deny the visitors a losing bonus point.
Cork Constitution who were in second place failed to take advantage of Lansdowne’s slip up, as they lost 17-3 away to UCD.
The sides were tied 3-3 at half time with Tomas Quinlan kicking a penalty for the Temple Hill side.
Garryowen who led bottom of the table Terenure College 10-0 at half time came away from Lakelands Park empty handed as they went down 27-17.
Neil Cronin, Hugh O’Brien Cunningham and Andrew O’Byrne scored tries for Garryowen and Cronin kicked a conversion.
In Division 1B UL Bohemian closed the gap on leaders Buccaneers to two points with an 18-8 away win at the Mardyke against UCC.
Cian Ahern and James Ryan scored tries for UL Bohes and James Lennon kicked two penalties and a conversion.
Kevin O’Keeffe replied with three penalties for UCC.
Shannon under new management have moved off the foot of the table after their 17-14 home win against Galwegians.
Jack Stafford and Keith Kavanagh scored tries for Shannon and Fionn McGibney kicked two conversions and a penalty.
Dolphin are now bottom after their 30-8 defeat away to Ballynahinch. The home side led 13-8 at half time. James Rochford scored Dolphin’s try and Barry Keeshan kicked a penalty.
Highfield had to come from 7-3 down at half time to defeat Cashel 31-7 in their Division 2A clash at Woodleigh Park.
Paddy O’Toole opened the scoring with a penalty for Highfield but a try by Ed Leamy converted by Ollie McGlinchey had the visitors ahead at the interval.
Tries from Mark Dorgan, Chris Bannon, Conor Forde and Ben Murphy all converted by O’Toole saw the home side take maximum points from this encounter.
Nenagh Ormond maintained their challenge with a hard earned 10-7 home win over Sunday’s Well.
Tries either side of half time from Conor Muldoon and John Coffey were enough for the Tipperary side. Francis Moynihan scored the ‘Well’s try and Shane O’Riordan converted.
Old Crescent are back in the promotion race in Division 2B after their 27-12 away win against bottom side Thomond.
Larry Hanly and Brendan Guilfoyle scored tries for Crescent who were also awarded a penalty try. Shane O’Brien kicked three conversions and two penalties.
Darragh O’Neill and Wayne Mullally replied with tries for Thomond and Dermot Fitzgerald kicked a penalty.
Bruff have moved into the top half of the table in Division 2C
after their 41-12 home win against Bangor. Brian Cahill, Cillian Rea, John Hogan, Liam Tracey, William Casey and Graham Whelan scored tries for Bruff. David O’Grady kicked two conversions and a penalty and Tony Cahill added two conversions.
Midleton lost away to leaders Navan 45-3. Stuart Lee kicked a penalty for the East Cork side.
Kanturk were defeated 24-16 by second placed Rainey Old Boys at Knocknaconlon. Olan Daly scored Kanturk’s try and Conor Cremin kicked three penalties and a conversion.
