Last year’s beaten finalists Glenstal Abbey and Christian Brothers College booked their place in the quarter finals of the Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Senior Cup.

At the UL 4G pitch, Glenstal Abbey came from behind to beat Rockwell College 10-8.

Jake Flannery opened the scoring with a penalty for Rockwell but Ben Healy levelled just before half time.

A try from Ronan Quinn converted by Healy put Glenstal in front.

Rockwell rallied in the closing stages but their only reward was a try from Conor Pearson.

At Lansdowne, CBC defeated Ard Scoil Rís 34-7.

The Sydney Hill College were quick off the mark as Thomas Downes opened the scoring with a try in the corner within two minutes of the kick-off.

Ard Scoil Rís were awarded a penalty outside the home side’s 22 from which they opted for the points, but Daragh O’Gorman’s shot was narrowly off target.

The Limerick side promptly found themselves back on the defensive as set-piece infringements were proving to be costly. The Sydney Hill College were back on the score sheet when Ben Roche was credited with a pushover try following a lineout inside the Ard Scoil Rís 22. Hedderman converted to increase their lead to 12 points.

Midway through the opening half, Hedderman increased CBC’s lead by a further three points with a five-metre penalty kick from directly in front to of the posts.

Ard Scoil Rís opened their account in the 28th minute with a try from Rhys Tucker following a scrum deep inside the CBC 22 and O’Gorman converted.

Hedderman added a try for the home side before the interval to give the Sydney Hill College a 20-7 interval lead.

Ard Scoil Rís dominated proceedings territorially in the scoreless third quarter, but handling errors short of the line prevented them from producing further scores.

Tries from Eoin Monaghan and Ronan Barry, which were both converted by Hedderman, put the game beyond the Limerick side’s reach in the final five minutes.
