Senior  Rugby Round-Up

Young Munster followed up last week’s win over Cork Constitution to move into third place in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League.

A 29-20 bonus point victory at home to Ballynahinch sees Young Munster move into the top four in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League. Ger Slattery, Ed O’Keeffe and Willie Staunton were Munsters' try scorers. They were also awarded a penalty try and Gearóid Lyons converted three of the tries and also added a penalty.

Shannon still remain bottom of Division 1B after their 13-7 defeat by Trinity at College Park. A late try from Hugh Kelleher converted by David O’Donovan earned the visitors a losing bonus point.

In Division 2A Cashel won the Tipperary derby with a 19-12 home win over Nenagh Ormond.

Thomond’s recent good run came unstuck at Kilbogget Park when Seapoint defeated them 9-7.

Dungannon had a surprising 17-16 win over U.C.C. at the Mardyke. Ben Mitchell and James Kiernan scored tries for the Students and Ben Nugent and Rory Slater kicked a penalty each.

A dramatic final quarter from Highfield saw them come from 12-6 down to defeat City of Armagh at the Palace Grounds 16-12 to remain top of Division 2B. Two penalties from Paddy O’Toole saw the sides level 6-6 at half time. A try from Timmy Ryan and converted by Tim Clifford put Highfield 13-12 ahead with fifteen minutes remaining. Clifford added a penalty in the final few minutes for a deserved victory.

Midleton’s promotion hopes received a setback at Greystones when they went down 27-20.

Kanturk got back to winning ways with a bonus point 45-12 home win over bottom side Ards. Sean Cremin, Paul O’Keeffe, Kealan Buckley, Dan McCabe, Matt Gandy, Jonathon O’Sullivan and John Duggan scored tries for the Duhallow side and O’Keeffe kicked five conversions.

Sunday’s Well caused a surprise at Balreask Old when five penalties from Shane O’Riordan saw them defeat Navan 15-0.

Old Crescent ended Tullamore’s recent good run with a 7-6 victory at Rosbrien. Rory Cunningham scored a try for the winners and Shane O’Brien converted.
