Senior Rugby Round-Up

UCC grabbed a bonus point in their win over NUIM Barnhall in Division 2A of the Ulster Bank League as UL Bohemian beat Dolphin in the only shock in the quarter finals of the Munster Senior Cup.

U.C.C. produced a sparking display at the Mardyke when they defeated second placed NUMI Barnhall 38-27.

The students had the bonus point wrapped up by half time as they led 24-20 with two tries from Cillian Ansboro and one each by Cian O’Halloran and James Kiernan. Cillian Monahan added two conversions.

James Kiernan and Charlie Slowey extended their advantage with further tries and Monahan converted both.

College had to withstand a storming finish by the visitors but denied them a chance of a fourth try as well as a losing bonus point.

Holders Cork Constitution did not have things their own way at Temple Hill, but booked their semi final place in the Munster Senior Cup with a 30-8 win over Bruff.

Gerry Hurley opened the scoring with a penalty for Con’ and Darragh Lyons doubled their advantage with a second penalty. A try from Rob Jermyn converted by Lyons gave the home side a 13-0 lead.

Paul Downes opened Bruff’s account with a penalty but a second try from Jermyn was quickly cancelled out by a try for Bruff by Derry Keogh to leave the score 18-8 at half time.

Further tries from Andrew O’Driscoll and Gavin Duffy and a Lyons conversion completed the scoring.

Young Munster will be Con’s semi final opponents after their 30-3 win over Thomond at Tom Clifford Park.

Sean Rennison, Ger Slattery and David O’Mahony scored tries for The Cookies and Gearoid Lyons kicked three conversions and three penalties. Dean O’Brien replied with a penalty for Thomond.

U.L. Bohemian defeated Dolphin 36-22. Dolphin were the better side in the opening thirty minutes but the home side dominated the game after that. Rory White scored two tries for Bohes and Tim Rafferty got one. Shane Airey converted all three tries and kicked five penalties.

Eamon Mills replied with two tries for Dolphin and Stuart Lee added four penalties.

Garryowen defeated Cashel 31-14 to reach the last four. Dave Sherry and Neil Cronin were try scorers for Garryowen who were also awarded a penalty try. Jamie Gavin kicked four penalties and two conversions.

Holders Nenagh Ormond were knocked out of the Cyril Fitzgerald Plate when they lost at home to Old Crescent 19-12 on Friday night.

Shannon proved too strong for Richmond wining 50-0 at Richmond Park. Ronan McKenna scored a try, penalty and converted six of Shannon’s seven tries. Kelvin Browne got two tries and Conor Glynn, Richie Mullane, Conor Cunnane and Shane Mullaly got one each.

Sunday’s Well defeated Midleton 22-16 at Musgrave Park. Tries from Sam Holt and Darren Loftus and two conversions and a penalty by Shane O’Riordan had the ‘Well 14-3 ahead at half time. Paul Daly kicked a penalty for Midleton.

Tries from Diarmuid O’Sullivan and Sean White and a Daly penalty put Midleton ahead 16-14 but, the home side rallied and an O’Riordan penalty and a try by Aidan O’Reilly saw the ‘Well advance.
