Senior Rugby Round-Up

Lansdowne defeated Young Munster in the top of the table clash in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League as Cork Constitution moved into second place and Garryowen fourth.

On the back pitch in the Aviva Stadium, Young Munster suffered their second successive defeat after Ulster Bank League Division 1A leaders Lansdowne defeated them 30-24. The home side led 20-12 at half time. Craig O’Hanlon scored two tries for Young Munster and Calvin Nash and Jack Harrington got one each. Alan Tynan added two conversions.

Cork Constitution moved up to second place after their 50-25 win over UCD at Temple Hill. Tomás Quinlan contributed a try, six conversions and a penalty. Liam O’Connor, JJ O’Neill, Darragh Lyons, Rob Jermyn and Ned Hodson all scored tries and they were also awarded a penalty try.

After a poor start to the season, Garryowen are now in third place after their 41-26 victory over bottom side Terenure College at Dooradoyle. The home side led 29-12 at half time. Steven McMahon scored three tries for the Light Blues and Conor Oliver and Dave McCarthy also touched down. They were also awarded a penalty try and Neil Cronin kicked four conversions and a penalty.

In Division 1B, a last minute penalty by Robbie Bourke earned UL Bohemians an 18-17 win over UCC on the 4G pitch in UL. The Limerick side led 12-0 at half time and had tries from Joe Conway and Harry Fleming with Bourke kicking a conversion and two penalties. Conor Barry and James Kiernan scored tries for the Cork side and Kevin O’Keeffe converted both and also added a penalty.

Dolphin are back in the relegation zone after their 35-19 defeat by Ballynahinch at Irish Independent Park. Dolphin led 12-11 at half time with tries from Ryan Murphy and Kevin Allen. Cillian Monahan kicked one conversion. Gerry Ryan added a third try and Monahan added the extras.

Shannon remain rooted to the bottom of the table after their 53-12 defeat by Galwegians at Crowley Park.
The visitors trailed 25-7 at half time. Greg O’Shea and Niall Mulcahy scored tries for Shannon and Conor Fitzgerald kicked a conversion.

Nenagh Ormond regained top spot in Division 2A following their 32-17 home win over Blackrock College and Highfield’s 26-15 home win over leaders Banbridge.

At New Ormond Park, Clayton Stewart scored two tries, two conversions and a penalty for Nenagh. Lemeki Viapula, Darragh Hassey and Michael Walsh also scored tries.

Highfield’s Paddy O’Toole contributed a try, two conversions and four penalties in their surprising 26-15 win against Banbridge. Dave Kelly was Highfield’s other try scorer.

Sunday’s Well's recent good run came to a surprising end in Galway when Corinthians defeated them 39-22. Kieran Stokes scored two ties for the ‘Well and Cyprian Jouve got one. Shane O’Riordan kicked two conversions and a penalty.

A penalty try five minutes into added time earned Cashel a surprising 24-22 win over Queen’s University in Belfast. Eamon Connolly also crossed the white wash for a Cashel try and Ollie McGlinchey kicked four penalties and a conversion.

Old Crescent remain in fifth place in Division 2B just two points outside the play off places following their 15-14 away win at Dungannon. Val McDermott and Brendan Guilfoyle scored tries for Crescent and Shane O’Brien kicked a conversion and a penalty.

Thomond were defeated 45-7 by second placed Greystones at Liam Fitzgerald Park. Alan Wallace scored a try and a conversion for the Limerick side.

Midleton’s promotion hopes in Division 2C received a set back after their 14-10 away defeat at Tullamore.

Bruff defeated leader’s Rainey Old Boys 15-11 at Kilballyowen Park. David O’Grady and Neilus Keogh scored tries for Bruff and Tony Cahill kicked a conversion and a penalty.

Kanturk moved off the bottom of the table with a bonus point 24-13 win over Boyne at Knocknaconlon. Daithi Fitzpatrick, Kealan Buckley, Conor O’Sullivan and Olan Daly were try scorers for Kanturk and Conor Cremin kicked two conversions.
