Young Munster and Cork Constitution push closer to the play offs in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League as both Shannon and UCC have wins in Division 1B to ease their relegation worries.
Young Munster kept the pressure on leaders Lansdowne in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League with a 32-13 win against local rivals Garryowen at Dooradoyle on Friday night.
A try, conversion and two penalties by Neil Cronin gave Garryowen a 13-10 half time lead. Young Munster were awarded a penalty try and Alan Tynan kicked the conversion and a penalty.
Second half tries from Alan Kennedy, Michael Vaughan and Cian Bohane, two of which Tynan converted and also added a penalty gave The Cookies maximum points.
Cork Constitution defeated Dublin University 19-3 at Temple Hill to maintain their challenge. Two Tomas Quinlan penalties had the home side 6-3 ahead at half time.
Tries from Niall Kenneally and JJ O’Neill and another Quinlan penalty sealed the win for Con’.
In Division 1B U.L. Bohemian were beaten 27-24 on the 4G pitch in UL, a result that saw them lose valuable ground on leaders Buccaneers.
Tries from Ian Condell and Finbar Aherne both converted by James Lennon saw the home side trail 17-14 at half time.
Mick Lynch scored a third try for UL Bohes and Lennon added a conversion and a penalty.
U.C.C. won the Cork derby at Irish Independent Park with a 19-9 win over Dolphin a result that leaves Dolphin at the foot of the table seven points off safety.
A try by Conor Barry and a conversion and four penalties by Kevin O’Keeffe earned College the points.
Barry Keeshan kicked three penalties for the home side.
Shannon continued their fight against relegation with a 26-22 win away to third placed Old Wesley.
The sides were tied 12-12 at half time.
Conor Glynn, Jordan Prendeville, Riley Winters and Nathan Randles scored tries for Shannon and Fionn McGibney added three conversions.
