Young Munster kept their hopes alive of a top four finish in Division 1A of the All Ireland League with a dramatic win against Cork Constitution, while Old Crescent put 104 points on the board as they maintain their unbeaten run and Thomond go back to the top of Division 2C.
Young Munster edged out Cork Constitution 15-11 at Tom Clifford Park with a last minute try from Gavin Coombes which Shane Airey converted. The sides were level 3-3 at half time with Airey kicking a penalty for ‘Munster’s and Thomas Quinlan replying for Con’. A try by Gerry Hurley and a Quinlan penalty had the visitors 11-8 ahead entering the final few minutes with Jack Harrington scoring a try for “The Cookies.”
Garryowen remain in fourth place after their 17-0 away win at UCD. Liam Cronin and Diarmuid Barron scored tries for Garryowen and Neil Cronin converted both and also added a penalty.
UCC maintained their challenge in Division 1B for a playoff place with a 22-19 away win at Donnybrook against Old Wesley. With fifteen minutes remaining U.C.C. were leading 22-7 and had to withstand a late Wesley onslaught. Tadgh McCarthy, Paul Kiernan and John Poland scored tries for College and James Taylor added two conversions and a penalty.
Dolphin remain bottom of the table after their 34-19 defeat by Old Belvedere at Anglesea Road. Dolphin led 19-13 at half time with tries from Anthony Mason, Alex Denby and Daryl Foley. Barry Keeshan kicked two conversions.
In Division 2A, Nenagh Ormond suffered another defeat losing at home to City of Armagh 39-26. Jamie McGarry and Pater Coman scored tries for Nenagh and Clayton Stewart kicked four penalties and two conversions.
Cashel maintained their playoff challenge with 24-10 away win at Greystones. Eamon Connolly, James Ryan and Richard Kingston were Cashel’s try scorers and Darragh Lyons kicked two penalties and two conversions.
The Corinthians v Highfield was postponed because of a water logged pitch.
Old Crescent made it fourteen wins from fourteen with a record 104 points as they defeated bottom side City of Derry in Division 2B. The winners led 52-0 at the interval and scored sixteen tries. Val McDermott scored three, Brendan Guilfoyle and Cian Reale got two each. Alex Simpson, Larry Hanley, Seaghan Gleeson, Liam McMahon, Brian Bennett, Kevin Meade, Paul McNamara, Cathal O’Reilly and Liam Malone all got one apiece. Ronan McKenna kicked seven conversions and Shane Mullally added five conversions.
Sunday’s Well recorded their third successive victory with a 36-5 home win over Skerries. Conor O’Brien scored two tries and Eoin Geary and John Moynihan got one each. They were also awarded a penalty try. Shane O’Riordan kicked three conversions and a penalty.
Thomond beat Midleton 19-17 to back to the top of Division 2C with Evan Cusack getting all the scores for the home side consisting of an intercept try, four penalties and a conversion. Joe Gardiner and Louis Farnham were Midleton’s try scorers and Stuart Lee converted both and also added a penalty.
Bruff’s hopes of a top four finish received a set back after they lost to struggling Seapoint 37-10.
