Six Munster players have been selected to represent Ireland as part of a twelve man squad in the U18 Men’s 7s Championship in Heidelberg, Germany, this weekend.

A total of sixteen countries will be competing and sees Ireland drawn with Germany, Luxembourg and Georgia in their group.

Kieran Dunne from the Munster Rugby sub-Academy has been selected along with Academy player James McCarthy.

CBC full back and former Munster U18 Schools representative,  Eoin Monahan, will take part joining his fellow CBC colleague Eoghan Barrett.

Ronan Quinn from Glenstal Abbey School will also feature, taking a break from his Munster U18 Schools commitments as they take on Leinster at home this Saturday in their third Interprovincial fixture.

Quinn’s Munster U18 Schools colleague, Tim Duggan from Glenstal Abbey School has also been selected.

Also taking part in the championship is Munster U18 schools winger Jack Hunt from Rockwell College who will represent Germany in the tournament.

Speaking ahead of the tournament Munster U18 Schools Head Coach and Provincial Talent Coach Mark Butler said, “This competition is a great opportunity for the lads to experience 7s at an elite level and the challenges that come with it.

“Though the players will be a loss for their respective interprovincial games, I believe that 7s offers a fantastic point of difference for players in terms of their long term development.

“This tournament served as an excellent development tool for Munster players involved last season, while also providing an extra platform for the national 15 a-side U18 and U19 selection.
