Six Worthy Charities Benefit From Charity Cup

Proceeds from last season’s Sporting Limerick Charity Cup were distributed to six fantastic organisations in recent weeks.

An impressive amount of €9,330 was raised and distributed evenly to six organisations.

The six charities who benefitted were: Milford Care Centre, Limerick Marine Search & Rescue, Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, Parkinson’s Association of Ireland, Redemptorist Perpetual Help Fund, and Daughters of Charity Disability Support Services, Lisnagry.

The six cheques were distributed on behalf of the North Munster Sub-Committee by Chairman Brendan Foley and Fixture Secretary/Treasurer Brian Nolan.

Nenagh Ormond were the 2023 winners after defeating Shannon 52-14 to win the competition for the second time.

Originally known as the Hospital Cup, the Limerick Charity Cup was introduced in 1924 to raise funds for Barrington and St John’s Hospital in Limerick.

The name of the competition changed five years after it was introduced to encapsulate other charities that became involved.

As in this past season, the Limerick Charity Cup makes a significant social and sporting contribution to the local community.

See pictures below of the cheque presentations.
