Some Big Games In Ulster Bank League This Weekend

The second series of games in the Ulster Bank League has set up some very interesting ties.

In Division 1A Temple Hill houses the game of the day when Cork Constitution entertain Shannon. Both won their opening games last weekend and both had to come from behind after a poor start. Con’ trailed Lansdowne 9-0 at the Aviva Stadium and six penalties from Gerry Hurley and a Darragh Lyons drop goal saw the Con’s emerge winners, while Shannon had to come from behind to beat Dolphin thanks to the boot of Gareth Quinn-McDonogh and Ben Sargent.
Both sides will want to get a win and it could go down to the wire.

Young Munster who made a great start with a dramatic home win over defending champions Old Belvedere face a daunting task this week with a trip to Clontarf. If Munster can reproduce the battling qualities they showed last week then they could come away with some thing from this encounter.

Dolphin disappointed not to have beaten Shannon last week play Blackrock College at Musgrave Park and will be quietly confident of picking up the points.

Garryowen travel to Anglesea Road to face Old Belvedere and the Dubliners disappointed with last week’s defeat will be difficult to beat so the Light Blues will have their work cut out.

In Division 1B U.L. Bohemian play Dungannon and both had contrasting results last weekend. Dungannon blitzed UCD, while a poor start cost U.L. as they lost to Belfast Harlequins. The Limerick side will be hoping for a reverse of fortunes this time out.

Bruff who lost away to Buccaneers are at home to Galwegians and should collect the points especially as the Connacht side were well beaten by Ballynahinch at home last week.

It is a College derby at Belfield when UCD entertain UCC and both sides after defeats last week will want to get a win under their belts in what should be a close contest.

Old Crescent host Midleton in a Division 2A game at Rosbrien. Crescent put in a good performance last week to share the spoils with Old Wesley at Donnybrook, while Midleton’s kicking left them down at home to Corinthians and the East Cork side will have to improve if they are to get something from this tie.

Thomond are at home to Old Wesley and after their poor showing away to DLSP last week the Limerick side will be anxious to pick up something from this encounter.

Clonakilty play Queens University at The Vale and the West Cork side will have it all to do stop the students from recording another big win.

There is a big derby at Woodleigh Park in Division 2B when Highfield entertain Sunday’s Well. Both sides had to battle hard for victories last weekend and the home side will hope to repeat their Charity Cup victory earlier in the season.

It is a historic day for Cashel who will play their first home All Ireland League game when they entertain Banbridge. The Tipperary side had an impressive win last week against Suttonians and will fancy their chances of another victory.

Nenagh Ormond play early pace setters Rainey Old Boys and could but a dent in the Ulster side’s recent good run.
